There are so many aspects in our vision that cannot be so easily built into a robot’s vision system. These include
illusory contour perception, size independent shape recognition and pseudo progressive nature of our vision.
Illusion and illusory contour perception is an added feature in us. It helps us imagine the missing shapes of occluded
objects and perceive complete images even after allowing some amount of redundancy. It allows us to imagine things in many
ways.
In the figure shown above symmetrically and closely placed incomplete circles
give us an illusion of a square. The sector lines are assumed to continue even in the space between the two circles. We also
observe a minor variation in the color of the inner square and the outer one even though both are exactly the same.
